Public Review

The public review runs until September 25, 2026.

uproot is currently in a public review period before the release of version 1.0.0. We are asking the community to try uproot and share feedback so we can make it as good as possible before the first major release.

What does “public review” mean?

Public review is like peer review — just much, much better.

We have already tested uproot extensively ourselves by developing and running several experiments of our own. Now we want to hear from you. During the public review, we invite researchers to:

  • Install uproot and try building an experiment with it.
  • Report any issues you run into — bugs, confusing behavior, missing features, or unclear documentation.
  • Share ideas for improvements or new features.

Your feedback will directly shape the 1.0.0 release.

Substantial contributions during the public review will be gratefully acknowledged in our companion paper.

How to participate

  1. Install uproot by following the installation instructions.
  2. Try the demo at demo.uproot.science to see what uproot can do before writing any code.
  3. Build something. Work through the tutorial or start a project of your own. The examples repository has complete working experiments you can study or adapt.
  4. Tell us what you find. Open an issue or start a discussion on GitHub. You can also reach us via the contact details on the legal page.

Using AI assistants

Large language models are already very capable of helping you write experiments in uproot and convert code from other frameworks. To get the best results, point your LLM to:

  • The examples repository, which contains a large and growing number of complete experiments.
  • The uproot skill, which gives Claude Code and other agentic tools detailed knowledge of uproot's API.
